About the Artist: Lisa Bessette learned the fine art of Nantucket basket weaving from her father. Together, they created Nantucket Lightship Baskets and handmade purses for many years. Each basket is an original work of art, signed and dated on the bottom by the artist herself. The historic Nantucket Lightship basket represents a proud tradition of American craftsmanship and simple artistic beauty. They were first woven in the mid-1800’s by island men serving duty aboard the navigational lightships off the Nantucket coast. Today, these baskets are recognized around the world for their desirability and collectability. They are truly a piece of Cape Cod history.
